Due Today: Chosen Poem, Story, Warm-up on the shared document

Classwork

  1. Do Now: 7 minute writing warm-up: found poetry
    • (1 minute) 1st column: look around the room and write the names of objects
    • (1 minute) 2nd column: write as many words as possible that rhyme with dirt
    • (1 minute) 3rd column: write as many words as possible that rhyme with star
    • Write a poem! (4 minutes)
  2. After: Share poems
  3. Then: Meet with your editor to begin final edits to the publication
    • Team Awesome-o: Franco, Ana, Spencer, and Trevor (editors)
  4. Next: Who will lead the writing warm-up on Wednesday and Friday?

    • After: Share writing
    • Then: Whole-group review of the publication
      • Are all parts acceptable for spelling, grammar, and punctuation?
      • Are all parts acceptable for graphic design?
      • Is all work original, including images and/or artwork?
      • Is the final page-count a multiple of 4 (not including front and back cover)?
      • Mr. Fisher will add the adviser/teacher note after all other material has been added.

    2. After: Preview of Argumentation and Debate
      • Learn rhetorical language
      • Visit to Maui County Courthouse
      • Presentations from local law enforcement, judiciary, and political communities
      • Classroom debates: formal vs. informal
      • Participation with the Debate Club (Mr. DiMartino and Ms.VanAlstine)
    3. Then: Final changes to class publication
      • Today is the day. I will be sending it to print next week.
    4. During: Individual meetings with teacher about progress in the course

    Homework
    • Make sure you have ONE of the following for next semester: new 3-subject notebook or continue using a 5-subject notebook. You will continue having a list of new vocabulary each quarter, as well as note-taking needs for each class.
