Monday, September 16
Due Today: Begin Major Project #2
Learning Target: RL.9-10.3 Analyze how complex characters (e.g., those with multiple or conflicting motivations) develop over the course of a text, interact with other characters, and advance the plot or develop the theme.
Classwork
  1. Do Now: Setup note-taking tool for film
    1. Title the next left and right pages in your INB Star Wars and the Hero's Journey.
    2. Fold the left page in half. Then, draw a line across about halfway down the page.
    3. You should have four boxes. Title the boxes: Step and ExampleStep ExplanationArchetype and ExampleArchetype Explanation 
  2. After: Watch Star Wars: A New Hope (1977)
  3. Then: RIGHT page summary of steps and archetypes viewed in the film today. RIGHT page reflection on how this knowledge will help develop student stories following the same structure.
  4. Next: Reminder about INB Vocabulary adjectives due by next Monday (35 adjective entries)

Homework
  • We will be finishing Star Wars: A New Hope (1977) during the next class. If you or your family have personal or religious beliefs that do not allow you to watch this film, please contact me before classtime on Wednesday. You will be excused from the activities associated with the film and report to the KKHS Library for duration of the film.
  • Continue adding to your Vocabulary list of 35 new adjectives by Monday, September 23. Leave on the Period 5 shelf by 2:15 on Monday for grading.
  • Optional: Choose a location in the community to observe and take notes in your INB. The observational journal can give you valuable notes for use in your stories. Observe for at least 30 minutes to get the most out of your time.
