Due Today: Fairy Tale rewrite on Google Classroom
Learning Target: W.11-12.3.B Use narrative techniques, such as dialogue, pacing, description, reflection, and multiple plot lines, to develop experiences, events, and/or characters. RL.11-12.5 Analyze how an author's choices concerning how to structure specific parts of a text.
Target Practice: I know that my project will incorporate the idea of 'dreams' and am ready to begin writing it. Fist-5?
Classwork
- Do Now: Read this article about choosing a genre for your writing. Take notes in your journal about what genres seem interesting to you for this project.
- After: In your journal, write for 10 minutes about why you chose to write in the genre you did for the major project. Include a potential outline for your writing.
- Then: Discuss timeline for the project.
- During: Revise your letter of intent for the major project. Print, sign, and turn-in by the end of class.
Homework
- Begin drafting the major project
- Continue the dream journal. For the class, you are expected to keep a dream journal for 5 consecutive days. This will not be assessed until the last week of the quarter. So, you have time. Feel free to do more if you feel it is a valuable activity! The dream journal must include:
- Day, Date, and Time (morning, night, nap...specific time is not required)
- Description: focus on sensory details, not analysis
- Analysis: write a sentence or two about what you think the dream was about
- Reflection: write a sentence or two about what you think precipitated the dream, why you might dream something like this, or what larger meaning it might have.

Learning Target: W.11-12.10 Write routinely over extended time frames (time for research, reflection, and revision) and shorter time frames (a single sitting or a day or two) for a range of tasks, purposes, and audiences. W.11-12.5 Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach. L.11-12.3 Apply knowledge of language to understand how language functions in different contexts, to make effective choices for meaning or style.- Do Now: In your journal reflect on the Japanese idiom Saru mo ki kara ochiru (literally, "even monkeys fall from trees"). Use the entire time provided to WRITE!
- After: Read the article linked here about writing dream sequences. In your journal, take notes on the parts that can help you write your major project.
- Then: Use the Save the Last Word for ME discussion protocol to learn how other's read the article.
